WOMEN RIGHTS IN PAKISTAN

Women rights is the main issue in Pakistan in fact it is the most important issue in every country. But there are very few people who raise voice against the women rights. What is Women Rights exactly? Women Rights mean privileges and freedom equal to men. Women rights refer to the fundamental rights in the political, economic, civil, social and cultural spheres.

In Pakistan, women has to go through a lot of issues. Be it about their education or marriage or job life or even about their childhood. Half of the population of Pakistan lacks the basic knowledge of women rights. Women specially from village areas are not allowed to study, they are not allowed to go out with friends or even leave the house at all for anything. Parents get their child get married at a very young teen age. Sometimes forcefully too, without their consent. Women also become target of sexual and verbal abuse. They are given no privacy.

According to the Women, Peace and Security Index, Pakistan is ranked 167th Out of 170 countries in terms of women’s health and wellbeing. In recent years, we have seen a lot of change in Pakistan, women have started engaging in protests to speak out bluntly against inequality and violence and demanding action from the government to improve women’s right in Pakistan. The good news is that global organizations like the United Nations are not ignoring the crisis of women’s rights in Pakistan. In 2017, the U.N initiated a three year project called ‘The Economic Empowerment of Women Home-Based Workers and Excluded Groups in Pakistan.” The purpose of the initiative was to allow women, home-based workers, to effectively contribute to and benefit the economy’s of Pakistan.

The fight for women’s rights in Pakistan is not over and is making significant improvements year by year despite worrying about the people. For Pakistan’s long term development as a democratic country, gender equality and equity is necessary.
