Wasim Akram parts with Islamabad United

Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Islamabad United is considering various names for the possible replacement of Wasim Akram as the team’s director.Pakistan legend Wasim Akram has decided to part ways with Pakistan Super League franchise Islamabad United for another franchise. The star is expected to join Multan Sultans, the newly added 6th franchise for the league.

The news was confirmed by Akram’s manager who said that he is already in talks with other franchises. Multan Sultans sounds a very strong candidate because his manager specifically pointed out that they are in touch with the franchise owners over a possibility of Wasim Akram joining it.

Wasim Akram had a very important role of mentoring the team in Islamabad United. He helped the team come through two strong seasons with one helping them earn the trophy. Several sources are also claiming that Wasim Akram’s place will be taken by Misbah-Ul-Haq who was leading the team as a captain. If this is to be believed, Islamabad United will soon be announcing a new team captain.

Few names were considered, including Australia’s Ricky Ponting, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and West Indian Brian Lara, but nothing has been finalised. The name of Viv Richards is also under consideration. Viv is currently with Quetta Gladiator for the role of team mentor. Another source added that Sanath Jayasuriya’s name was almost ruled out due the political commitment of the former Sri Lankan cricketers in his home.
