The motorway incident has taken place has gathered the attention of many and people around the country are demanding justice for the victim.
However, a very strange statement came from Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) where he said that the women should not have stepped outside without any male member of the family. He went on saying that even if she went outside, she should have taken the busy road instead of the motorway and should have checked the petrol of her vehicle before leaving.
While responding to news reporters’ questions yesterday, CCPO said that the Pakistani society doesn’t allow children and women to go outside at 12:30 am and the public should be aware of it. He is being criticised for this statement.
People have criticised this statement of CCPO Umar Sheikh who is leading the investigation of this case. After listening to this statement, many are demanding his resignation as he is blaming the victim by his statements.
Many government officials including Shireen Mazari has condemned the statement of CCPO.
Considering the incident and the response of CCPO, one can comprehend that the problem is systemic and serious steps should be taken to avoid incidents of this kind in the future.
