Umair Jaswal, the rock star with the unmistakable growl, has set the screens on fire with his new song Har funn Maula. This song is Jaswal’s first performance with Sufi- stalwart Sanam Marvi and features an entirely unique element of sound used solely in his performance on Coke Studio 2020.
From Charkha Nolakha with Atif Aslam to his rocking performance in Sami Meri Waar with Quratulain Baloch, Jaswal has been unstoppable.
Since the beginning of his musical career, Jaswal has been seen having adorned a variation of wrist ornaments, including beads, wrist bands, watches, leather bangles, plaited bracelets among many others.
During the performance for his Coke Studio 2020 song Har Funn Maula, the sound of his silver bangles was too prominent to ignore. “This time around I was wearing two thick bangles made of silver. So when we did the first take, the camera team came in and said the clinking of the bangles can be heard over the mic and in the song.”
Jaswal looked over at producer Rohail Hyatt to see if he wanted him to remove them when the producer said, “But I can’t make him take them off because then he [Umair Jaswal] will not be in his element.” And the artist agreed wholeheartedly.
Explaining how he prepares himself for a performance, Jaswal said, “Over the years, I have realised that there are two Umair Jaswals – one who is the singer, the performer, and the other who is the real me. As a performer, when I am in my element, I need to look a certain way, I need to feel a certain way and I’m big on [wrist] accessories.” He added that without the accessories he is unable to concentrate. “I feel I am missing something and I’m constantly thinking about it.”
“So if you listen very closely, you will be able to hear the clinking of the bangles in the song as well,” said Jaswal laughingly.
Har Funn Maula is a Sufi dhamaal power track using dhol based rhythm along with Western drums giving it a rock element. The song is a beautiful prayer in which a man asks his Creator to make him better at everything he does
The song is out and has already crossed a million views on YouTube. Here is a link to the song.
