Trailer of Birds of Prey is out now but was this movie for Harley Quinn only?

Birds of Prey finally got a trailer and we can’t see the Birds of Prey in it.

The trailer shows Harley Quinn’s journey from leaving The Joker and becoming her own person, explaining why the complete title for the film is Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn.

Clearly, the film appears to pegging off Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn heavily since that’s who audiences are familiar with but that’s exactly where we feel irked.

Sure, the Birds of Prey are making their cinematic debut, with many unfortunately not having a clue who these heroes are. But was Harley Quinn the right fit for this film? And if the film was to be made this way, why not just make it a Harley Quinn film where we’re introduced to the dynamic team?

In the books, the Birds of Prey were formed in a partnership between Black Canary and Barbara Gordon – the first Batgirl – as The Oracle, with Huntress being a core member. Harley Quinn was never in the roster. If this was a film on the Gotham City Sirens or even the Secret Six, it would’ve made more sense. Or maybe if she was the villain in this film.

It’s sad because from the trailer, Margot Robbie is doing an excellent job as Quinn, magnanimously better than in Suicide Squad.

Oh well, we hope the movie does justice to the main characters of the actual team and that they get the spotlight they deserve. The film’s cast includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask.
