Tonner Doll Company launches world’s first transgender doll

The Tonner Doll Company has released the world’s “first transgender doll,” which seems to be making waves on social media.

The company explained that the doll that doesn’t have genitalia looks like a teenage activist Jazz Jennings who was born a boy but lives as a female.

After hearing news of the doll, Jennings expressed her reaction by saying: “I hope that it can place transgender people in a positive light by showing that we are just like all other people.”

“Of course it is still just a regular girl doll because that’s exactly what I am: a regular girl,” Jennings added.

Some people criticized the company by saying that the company was using the label as a marketing attention-grabber:

The doll has been launched at a time when modern-day Pakistani transgender community is fighting for social acceptance.

Pakistan became one of the world’s first countries legally to recognize third sex, however over half a million members of the community continue to live as pariahs, subjected to abuse, extortion, and discrimination. Many trans genders often have to resort to begging and prostitution for survival.
