Titanic II set to sail in 2018

China has commenced the construction of the world’s largest, first full-sized replica – Titanic II.

The 984-foot vessel that is being built by the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Co. is said to complete by the end of 2018, remaining permanently docked as a tourist attraction in landlocked Sichuan province.

According to Wuchang executives its liner will faithfully replicate the original Titanic; with a dining hall, theater, luxury first-class cabins and swimming pool.

Though the guests on board will be able to dine and stay over night, however, the vessel won’t be able to sail away from the reservoir near the hilly Sichuan village where it’ll be docked.

The original Titanic sank in 1912, after hitting an iceberg, that resulted in the death of more than 1,500 people.

“Titanic’ is a story of a poor young man and a rich girl, which more accords with Chinese audiences’ taste. This kind of plot has a long history in the popular culture of China,” opened People’s Daily in 2012.
