After the recent death of Thailand’s King, Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Thursday (13th October) at the age of 88, the government of Thailand had declared a whole year of mourning.
Residents have been requested to wear black during the period of mourning for a month at the least and avoid involving into any sort of “festivities” for 30 days. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said that the public entertainment in the country would be postponed for a month to honour and show solidarity, according to Travel Wire Asia. Furthermore, the National security of the state will be increased.
An advisory from the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office stated, “Particularly during the first 30 days of the mourning period, some entertainment venues, including restaurants, bars, and clubs may be closed or operating on restricted hours.”
It has been further stated that all transport, banks, hospitals, and public services will operate normally and most cultural events will continue to take place, though the nature of excitement may not be as zealous as it happens to be, in order to honor the memory of the late king.
