Here are a few things women traveling in public transport need to know

Women in Pakistan often run the risk of being physically and verbally abused while travelling on public transport. Yes, women’s safety is one of the biggest issues this country is dealing with and believe me, there is nobody who would not support it, men included.

We are all for feminism and women empowerment, but let’s not uplift women by putting men down. What’s wrong is wrong. It may be difficult being a woman especially while taking the public transport, but the harsh truth is, there are things we do too that make it a nightmare for everybody else.

Here are few things men want women who take public transport to know.

  • Use deodorants. Guess what? Women stink too!
  • Don’t make a issue out of nothing.
  • Stop playing the victim card.
  • Don’t except men to vacate their seats for you.
  • Please be civil.
  • Despising all men just because women are unsafe.

At this point, I’m used to the eye-rolls and “femi-nazi” barbs when someone asks if I’m a feminist and I respond in the affirmative. This does not bother me, because I feel confident I am on the right side of history by believing in equality. That’s what feminism is, you know the belief that all people are equal. Unfortunately, though, there are many things feminism does not mean that have somehow become woven into the fabric of modern-day feminism in our culture.
