Congratulations! You have reached that age when people around you are getting married every other day and everyone is asking you this most dreaded and galling question that SHADI KAB KAR RAHI HO?
Well, our marriage-oriented culture is the reason for such irrelevant curiosities (or to be put in better words) —pointless nosiness. In our Pakistani culture, Shaadi is everything! Whether you are a boy or a girl, if you are in your late twenties and not married yet, then you are the mouth of all. And especially for girls the “Shaadi kab kar rahi ho?” struggle is real!
Below are some annoying plus gawky phrases every girl in her mid or late twenties would relate!
Desi Aunties everywhere anywhere — “Shaadi kab karogi? Umar nikal jaegi”
As if shaadi comes with an expiry date
“25 k baad achay rishte nahi atay”
Is age really a barrier to acha rishta?
“Shaadi nai karni to kya karna hai? Job karni hai? Job walian wese hi ghar nahi sambhal saktein”
The most wretched part of our society is that initially a girl is brought up with an idea to become something and fulfill her dreams, but all these dreams become worthless when she reaches a shaadi age set by our bone-headed cultural norms. On top of this the job krne wali larki is not considered as a homemaker!
“Friends k sath tour pe jana hai? Tou shaadi k baad shauhar k sath chali jana”
What even? How are they even related?
And lastly don’t forget the Neighbor Auntie’s unnecessary curiosity – “Tou beta invitation kab araha hai?”
Oh the pointless nosiness
This is just a small reminder to all those poking their noses in others’ lives that let’s be a little kind, less judgmental and respect each other!
