What is love you ask? Some say it’s the rainbows and butterflies, the sound of violins, everything slowing down and the world just seeming more colourful. They say it’s roses and chocolates and nights out with your partner, gazing into each others eyes under starlit skies.
Hold up, what kind of fairytale depiction do we all have about love? Where the princess that is captivated by her evil step mom is finally saved by prince charming and they live happily ever after?
Let me explain what love really is.
It is the comfort and safety you feel when you’re around that person, the joy of spending time with them, laughing with them and feeling content. Love is the constant support and encouragement plus support you give each other. Love is about sharing your hopes and dreams and being a part of each others pain and joy. It is those restless nights when one can’t sleep and the comfort of the others arm helps them ease in and embrace their fears. Love is patience, kindness, respect and most importantly unconditional. Yes, there are roses and butterflies and violins but there is always good and bad which one must be prepared for. Love is resolving each others worries and calming down the storm within, it is wiping tears when things go wrong and standing by their partner when the world seems like they are against them.
The idea of love that we have established is nothing but a tainted version of what it truly is.
Love is not when someone makes you feel like there’s butterflies inside your tummy, it is when you hold someone’s hand and feel safe, secure and sound. Why fall in love when you can rise in love?
