The dilemma of attention-seeking.

Attention seeking is a personality disorder that many have but don’t acknowledge. It usually is a conscious or unconscious attempt to retain validation from people as they may feel the need to seek approval from others all the time by gaining admiration or simple wanting to draw unnecessary attention to themselves.

What attention seeking looks like:

  1. Fishing for unnecessary attentions by seeking compliments
  2. Comparing achievements and being extremely loud about making statements that make them look superior
  3. Provoking reactions by being diplomatic
  4. Pretending not to know how to do something so that they can watch while another attempts to do it
  5. Speaking ill of others to make themselves feel validated
  6. Taking advantage of others to achieve their own goals

What causes this behaviour?

  1. Extreme insecurity
  2. Jealousy or lack of confidence
  3. Low self-esteem
  4. Loneliness and fear of losing people

For someone who does not receive attention, it can create personality disorders such as bi-polar behaviour. They get very uncomfortable when they do not get attention, they use appearance to draw focus, have mood shifts, have vague or impressionistic speech and exaggerated responses. This can also root from a narcissistic personality disorder when an individual wants constant admiration without offering any empathy and try to seem considerate however, they do that to support the persona of grandiose that they maintain to avoid coming to terms with this disorder.

Watch out for such people and do not let them drag you in their bubble.

Until next time.
