The Little Mermaid is a literary fairytale written by the Danish author “Hans Christian Anderson” it was first published in 1837! Yes that long ago!! Disney released an animated movie based on this fairytale in 1989 and it did wonders, infact it is still enjoyed by children throughout the world to this day! In recent news Disney released a live action version of The Little Mermaid and netizens went crazy, it featured Halle Bailey as the lead actress playing the role of Ariel the mermaid.
Typically Ariel was portrayed and imagined with a fair complexion, Disney however hired Halle who is half African American with a dark complexion, Disney was praised for their inclusivity and netizens were pleased to see a change from the stereotypical fair skinned blond haired Disney princesses. Other than that people also praised the wonderful cinematic of the movie and how they made the fictional world of mermaids look so real! The highly anticipated live-action remake of the 1989 Disney animated classic did wonders in the domestic box office last weekend. The film just crossed the $250 million mark at the global box office.
