Do you know how it feels to plant a flower, see it grow and nurture it? Then one day, something or someone comes along and rips that flower while you are helpless as to what it should be that you can do to fix it?
This is exactly what starting over feels like. You begin with unlearning all those little things that once defined what life was to you. You stop mid sentence when you realise you are speaking their slang, you often avoid places you would once spend hours at, you skip songs that remind you of what it is that once was.
Why is it that once we lose somebody, it is us who needs to collect the pieces, rebuild our lives and start from scratch? Does it happen to the other person too? Or is it just one person that has to go through this heart wrenching process?
It hurts. It hurts at the start. But soon, you find yourself smiling again at things that once bothered you, laughing again at the places you would avoid, dancing to the same songs you once couldn’t stand and looking forward to the feeling of love.
Starting over is not easy but once you decide to, it’s the best thing ever. A new chapter, endless opportunities and ofcourse a clean slate.
Until next time.
