The Spice Girls may not be reuniting for another tour anytime soon. BUT, it appears the Spice Girls will be coming together to bring girl power to a new animated superhero movie.
According to a source, not only have the members of the group signed off their likeness to be used in the movie, they will also be lending their voices to their respective characters. Hmmm, we wonder if the characters are called Posh, Scary, Baby, Sporty and Ginger… Well they should be!
The yet to be titled film will have a strong message of girl power and while it hasn’t been revealed which production house will take on the project, the source hints at Disney, saying, “The Spice Girls are thinking big in terms of a franchise on a global scale. They’re the most successful girl group on the planet. It’s just what Marvel or Disney needs.”
While Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) have been less (wholly) committal to a big reunion tour, the group is “fired up about the idea [of the animated film],” a source told Variety. “The Spice Girls are thinking big in terms of a franchise on a global scale. They’re the most successful girl group on the planet. It’s just what Marvel or Disney needs.”
The girls’ last big movie was their live-action 1997 Spice World, a ’90s gem with plenty for the animated film to pull inspiration from:
We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls,” the five women said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight in February. “The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.”
