The Indian Supreme Court has recently directed the Centre to decide on the playing of the anthem in public places, including cinema halls. While many of the people supported this idea and said that one should, Sonu Nigam came forward and expressed his views about Supreme Courts decision of allowing national anthem to be played at public places.
He said that he doesn’t support that national anthem should be played at cinemas as it is against the decorum. He then said that just like he respects his parents and will never take them anywhere they won’t be respected, national anthem shouldn’t be played in places where it doesn’t get the respect it is worthy of.

“There are some people who are saying the national anthem should be there (in cinema halls), some say it should not be there. The national anthem is a prestigious and sensitive thing and I think it should not be played in certain places– in movie theatres or restaurants, “Even the National Anthem of Pakistan is played and all Pakistanis are standing, I will also stand out of respect for that country and those people”
Soon after his statement, there were many who bashed him for supporting Pakistan’s National Anthem:
