Is your sleeping schedule setting you up for a heart attack?

As people continue to work longer hours or work at more than one job to make ends meet, the risk of dying has increased as they don’t get time to rest.

Sleeping for less than six hours a night greatly increases the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke, a study has warned.

There is an expectation in today’s society to fit more into our lives. The whole work-life balance struggle is causing too many of us to trade in precious sleeping time to ensure we complete all the jobs we believe are expected from us.

According to Co-researcher Dr Michelle Miller, “Chronic short sleep produces hormones and chemicals in the body which increase the risk of developing heart disease and strokes, and other conditions like high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes and obesity.” However the scientists have also warned that sleeping more than nine hours every night may be an early warning sign of heart disease.

The trend for late nights and early mornings is actually a ticking time bomb for our health, so you need to act now to reduce your risk of developing these life-threatening conditions.
