Third season of PSL is just around the corner and the first encounter will be between Multan Sultan and Peshawar Zalmi but before that both the teams’ captains’ attack on each other and during the PSL trophy unveiling ceremony.
All the players competing in this competition are all pumped up for this year’s competition. Darren Sammy who has emerged as one of the key names attached to PSL has earned a lot of respect from the fans and his franchise. Not only this, as a captain he led his team to the finals and got the first PSL title for Peshawar Zalmi.
When Darren Sammy was introduced as a “Khan” during the presser — a nod to him leading the Peshawar Zalmis to victory last year Multan Sultan captain Shoaib Malik quipped that he’s “never seen a Pathan like [him].”
Many people have interpreted Malik’s remark as a racist dig at Sammy, a joke with a punch line that hinges on the contrast between typically light-skinned Pathans and Sammy’s own dark skin.
The abundant laughter that followed Malik’s remark suggests that many in the audience were in on the joke, However some on Twitter disagree
Darren Sammy: “When i look at left LALA you look strange in Blue”
Shoaib Malik: My Friend said you name “Darren Sammy Khan” i have never seen a pathan like you, that’s why LEGEND left you ???????????? pic.twitter.com/ikrYDhQNKu
