Sanam Saeed has some concerns about Pakistan banning its own films

The actor took to social media to voice her thoughts regarding the film Durj which was set to release locally but had its permission revoked.

“Why are films like Durj banned?” questions Sanam. “If Hollywood films with all their sexual innuendos and violence and dark topics can play in our cinemas then why can’t our independent out-of-the-box films like Durj be played?”

Durj, directed by Shamoon Abbasi, is said to be inspired by true events revolving around cannibalism. It did not pass the provincial boards which “viewed the feature film as per prevalent censorship rules and did not consider it appropriate for public exhibition in cinema houses.”

We can’t help but agree with Sanam, seeing as Joker is playing in the cinemas – very successful – but this is the film that is considered problematic to the censor boards, despite Shamoon’s claim that “It’s a very sensitive film with no blood or gore, it’s not the type of film to be banned outright as such.”

Durj will be released internationally. Here’s hoping it makes its way back home soon.
