Sadness and happiness are both the important aspects of life.

Sometimes I feel delightful, and the other times I feel down in the dumps. There are moments when I cannot contain my happiness, and similarly, there are times when I cannot control my tears. Therefore, sadness is as much part of life as happiness is.

People are always grateful for being happy. When they are chattering, screaming in happiness, and giggling they do not care since happiness is a gift of God. However, they only feel deep when they are unhappy. Sadness is always seen as something that needs to be cured. My question is that why is it also not seen as a gift of God?

Earl A. Grollman, an internationally recognized counselor said, ‘’Grief is not a disorder, a disease or sign of weakness. It is an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity, the price you pay for love. The only cure for grief is to grieve.’’ Grief was never defined before as beautifully as Grollman does.

Like happiness, sadness is also from God. We shouldn’t try to conquer our feelings. It is an emotion that is important too. Without seeing and understanding grief you would not have understood the joy and beauty of happiness. Life is so ironic. It takes sadness to know happiness, noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence.

Hence, life does not remain the same. It changes! What you have today is enough to appreciate what you will get tomorrow. So being melancholic does not mean abandoning yourself, but it is also a phase that needs to be lived. Life is full of tragedies, tears, ups and downs, smiles, love, and peace. Thus, be thankful for whatever you go through. That’s the key to a better tomorrow.
