Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ has been rocking headlines since it’s inception. Things took an ugly turn when protesters belonging to fringe groups took to the streets to ban the film apart from issuing death threats and threatening physical harm to the director and his leading lady Deepika Padukone.
A number of actors reportedly came forward with a signed petition addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show their solidarity with the actress. However Kangana Ranaut has refused to sign the petition initiated by Shabana Azmi that demands protection for Deepika Padukone from the government.
She clarified her stance by stating that she got a call from her friend Anushka Sharma to sign the petition written by Shabana Azmi when she was in Jodhpur for the shoot of ‘Manikarnika: The Queen actor revealed, “I was filming in Jodhpur when I got a call from a dear friend Anushka Sharma to sign the petition written by Shabana Azmi. I explained to her that Deepika has all my support but I am a bit wary of Shabana’s investment in left wing versus right wing politics.”
Kangana continued, “I have my own set of ideas and opinions about the current situation in our country. I am on the fence about many things and being a part of a feminist movement called ‘Deepika bachao‘ led by someone who character-assassinated me when I was bullied by influential men, seems to be one of them.”
The superstar added that Anushka understood how she felt. “Anushka understood but I am glad they reached out to me. Like I said, Deepika has all my support. I am an individual perfectly capable of supporting who I like without anyone’s support,” stated Kangana.
Kangana Ranaut is known for fearless attitude and one who doesn’t believe in mincing her words or either being politically correct. . Interestingly enough, Kangana is currently filming for her own historical drama based on Rani Laxmibai, titled Manikarnika.
