Hum tv drama “ishq zahe naseeb” aired in june. It shows a character named sameer. His parents abandoned him in his childhood and he grew up under the wing of his step mother. Sameer faced traumatic occurrences in his childhood which still haunts him. Due to that reason, he developed a dissociative identity disorder (DID) also known as split personality disorder.
As he experienced episodes in his childhood by a maid named shakra who worked in his house. His step-mother would ask the maid to lock sameer in the basement whenever sameer would misbehave. As shakra would take him to the basement, she would talk to him and told him that her name was sameera. She influenced him in such a way that now he sees her, acts like her. She has became a part of his imagination, an illusion. Although at day, he is a confident businessman who handles his company but at night his personality completely changes when he locks himself in his room and talks to shakra in his imagination. He puts make up on and become sameera.
Why this serial is uncommon because it tackled yet another mental illness which we have never seen in any pakistani drama before. However, mental health issues are hardly discussed. A split personality disorder which is very rare and has no awareness in our society. As it is displayed in a drama, it can spread awareness among people. Childhood trauma or emotional abuse can be the cause of it.
Zahid Ahmed has outdone himself. He played a very intriguing role. Moreover, his character is very tough and it shows how he has made an effort in his performance.
