Warner Bros. is developing a prequel to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” and new reports suggest that the studio is considering “The Notebook” actor Ryan Gosling to portray the character Willy Wonka.
According to That Hashtag Show, Rayan will star as the iconic chocolate factory owner, previously played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, in the upcoming prequel about Willy Wonka’s earlier days.
Willy Wonka was previously brought to life by the late, great Gene Wilder in 1971 and by Johnny Depp in 2005.
If the rumours are true, we can probably expect Gosling to take a deadpan approach to the character – much like Wilder did – as opposed to Depp’s more zany and psychedelic impression.
Whether we’ll see Gosling as Willy Wonka remains to be seen. In the meantime, the Hollywood heartthrob is preparing for the highly-anticipated Blade Runner 2049, which is slated to be released on 6 October.
