Pakistani Music icon Rahat Fateh Ali in a recent interview with BBC Asian Network bashes Coke Studio and alleges that their choice of songs went wrong.
“The earlier Coke Studio which Rohail Hayat was doing was very good, very good, they went wrong. They went with the wrong song selection. They game me Janoon’s Sayoonee. That wasn’t the right song for me, it went wrong”.
Rahat who has been a frequent appearance at the famed music show sang redemption of famous song Afreen Afreen three years ago, which became a major hit also featuring Momina Mustehsan in Coke Studio Season 9.
On being questioned over Coke Studio’s Afreen that you did it well, Rahat replied, yes It was to be good because we have to do it good”.
Music maestro also seems to be not very much pleased with the current Pakistani music scene. He was asked about the new Pakistani Musicians who feel pride and claim to take the entertainment industry forward.
Do you see the same? asked Haroon Rashid, to which Rahat replied, “I feel proud of the good work. I don’t want to give my opinion on such an initial stage. This is an ongoing journey and good work is being done. let the good work keep happening for now. When a full Eiffel Tower will be made then I will compliment it”
BBC Entertainment reporter, Haroon Rashid also questioned him for his songs featuring in Bollywood movies. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan says his versions of Mere Rashke Qamar and Nit Khair Manga can’t be compared to his uncle’s originals.
