Film Raat akeli hai released on 31st July on Netflix by debutant director Honey Trehan is a murder mystery starring Radhika Apte, Nawazuddin Siddique, and Shweta Tripathi along with others. The story revolves around the murder of a powerful businessman in Lucknow who gets killed on his second wedding day with a young woman ‘Radha’ played by Radhika Apte. There are multiple suspects of the murder and that’s what makes the story interesting. This time, we see Nawazuddin in a different role as a cop other than a criminal. The cop is well spirated and investigates the case and desperately seeks for justice.
The film is a horrifying portrait of patriarchy in the family. The film is a great mixture of family politics, greed, corruption, and suspense. The violence in the film is both horrific and psychological. Apart from great performances, the narrative of the film will keep you hooked as everyone is hiding something. The cinematography is what makes this film stand out and I loved the opening shot of the film. I felt that the debutant director rushed a little to resolve everything in the end and that’s what happens usually with murder mysteries. Also, one thing that hit me about the film was violence against the women other than that this film is a great tale of murder and revenge.
