Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan kick off South Africa royal tour with dancing, stunning fashion

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have arrived in South Africa for their 10-day royal tour of the continent. It is the first time baby Archie has joined the couple on an overseas trip.

First up, Meghan and Harry, without Archie, made a visit to the Nyanga township, just outside of Cape Town, to learn about a workshop that teaches children about their rights and safety. The Duchess opted for a Mayakino monochrome “Dalitso” wrap dress with black wedges for the occasion. The Malawi-based brand ethically sources materials and incorporates traditional African techniques in its locally printed fabrics.

Part of the Justice Desk initiative, it provides self-defence classes as well as female empowerment training to young girls in the community. The initiative is an NGO supported by The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust – of which Harry serves as president and Meghan as vice-president.

Over the weekend, the couple was in Rome to celebrate the nuptials of fashion designer, Misha Nonoo to Michael Hess. Fellow royals Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice joined the duo for the lavish affair at the Villa Aurelia, a 17th-century property on the grounds of the American Academy, which was also attended by Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner.

The 10-day-long tour will see the Duchess embarking on activities that reflect her focus on supporting women. She will be meeting female entrepreneurs, academics and community leaders, as well as visiting a school to learn about the work of a local charity that raises awareness of sexual violence. Harry will also travel to Malawi, Angola and Botswana, before returning to Johannesburg, South Africa, on 1 October for the final two days of the trip.
