How to prep your skin for flawless makeup

To achieve a flawless finish on your makeup, you have to take the proper steps in preparation! Most people directly jump into applying foundation and don’t think about the important steps that should be taken to prepare the skin for makeup.

You’d be surprised to know that a lot of people choose to skip this step because they aren’t aware of how important it is to prepare their skin beforehand. It turns out that if you skip prepping your skin for makeup, you could end up with clogged pores and suffer breakouts. It could also negatively affect the outcome of your look and require more touch ups throughout the day. Preparing your skin for makeup ensures that it goes on evenly and stays put. The better your skin looks to begin with, the better the makeup will look.

If you want to maintain flawless, radiant skin and keep your makeup on point, check out these important tips on how to prep your face before applying makeup.

1. Cleanse your face

Cleanse your face with alcohol-free and gentle cleanser. Though many products on the market offer miraculous results, they are often just hype. Look for cleaners that have simple ingredients that won’t damage your skin.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliating allows you to remove dead skin cells and reveals a fresher, smoother surface for makeup application. All you need to do is scrub in small, circular motions and then rinse with warm water.

3. Apply toner

Applying toner will help remove any remaining traces of dirt and impurities.

4. Moisturize

Massaging your skin as you apply moisturizer will improve circulation and instantly brighten you up, and nobody wants a dull face! Again, with moisturizer you want to choose one that works with your skin type!

If you’re gonna be exposed to sun, don’t forget to use a sunscreen!

5. Prime your face

After you’re feeling all hydrated and gave your moisturizers some time to sink into the skin, you’re ready to prime! Applying primer is fairly easy and it has a ton of benefits. For example, it can hide acne scars, allow for a smoother look, help decrease sweating, and even help your make up last longer throughout the day.

Now that you’ve taken care to prepare your skin properly, you can apply your makeup as you normally would. Remember that the better prepared your skin is for makeup, the better your makeup will look in the end, and the better it will last.
