Social media kinda broke down yesterday when people started putting up statuses panicking.
WHY, oh why is youtube not working??
It just so happened that Google was rebooting its algorithm and was momentarily out of order and for those of you who didn’t know, not only Gmail, but Youtube is also Google, hence it all came crashing down!
No need to fret though, while everyone was running their fingers on ‘dem keyboards trying to make sense of what happened, Google was up and running again like nothing happened and all that hoopla was for nothing…
That’s right, social media warriors came guns ablaze, for nothing…..
As amazing as it is that social media allows us to spread news in “real time”, however it is alarming how many people think that instead of practicing patience and maybe looking for a rather “action-oriented” solution, posting things on social media is the way that all their problems will get solved.
Granted, there are many benefits of social media and we are all guilty of using it in creative ways to fulfil our needs, but one must ask themselves, how did people solve problems before Twitter, Facebook, MSN or MIRC?
for those of you who remember that crazy MIRC era (high five) you ‘da o.g.!
Point being, the internet is now so irreplaceably imbedded into our minds and our lives that we have forgotten how to function without it and we must to some extent, learn to operate without it and many other technological advancements. not to sound too sci-fi crazed, but what if there’s a zombie apocalypse!? none of our kids would know how to communicate without their cellphones! HAHA
