With the recently held 5th edition of HUM Awards 2017 in Lahore; many celebrities, corporate gems and socialites gathered under one roof to celebrate the success of Pakistan’s greatest talents with among all glamour and glitz.
With all the latest happening came roaring upon users on social media; with live coverage, images and short video teasers, something came up in the social feed of people that was upsetting for many.
As Ahsan Khan was announced the winner of the Best Actor for his negative role in ‘Udaari’, host Yasir Hussain passed a comment that was mind boggling for many. As mentioned by Hassan Choudary in his tweet, Hussain said, “Aisa khoobsurat child molester, kaash main bhi bacha hota”
Host Yasir Hussain after Ahsan Khan wins award fr Udaari: “Aisa khoobsurat child molester; kash mein bhi bacha hota”
WHATTHEFUCK #HumAwards

As soon as Hassan came out with his tweet people couldn’t believe how someone could pass such an insensitive statement on such a sensitive subject:
Some hoped that the channel would consider not airing this statement:
Some couldn’t believe that this has happened in real and thought to give him a benefit of doubt while others confirmed the news:
Whereas, some wondered whether this statement was part of the script or not:
Were the #HUMAWARDS not scripted? Worse if they were! #YasirHussain

Nonetheless, this is what Jibran had to say about the entire situation:
Last night #HumAwards when Ahsan Khan won for #Udaari, host Yasir Hussain joked “Itna khobsurat child molester, kash main bhi bacha hota”

Even more outrageously than the joke was the fact that majority of the attendees laughed at the joke despite their exposure and education

Some media personalities are clearly immature, ignorant and insensitive and needs educate themselves. They are ambassadors of Pakistan

In a award show last year, host Ahmed Ali Butt did a whole skit making fun about dwarfism. With time we are supposed to progress not regress

Yasir Hussain’s comment last night proves that Ahsan Khan & Udaari’s teams should be encouraged to produce more work for awareness/education

While most are showing their resentment towards this so-called joke by Yasir Hussain even with some ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’, we strongly feel that subjects like child abuse are not something to joke about by any means.
Considering the fact that Yasir Hussain himself is a writer, none of us could have expected something like this. Nonetheless, Yasir took his message to his Instagram profile and apologized for the spontaneous speech.
