Netflix broke the news that the seventh season of the series would be its last with a poignant video that featured messages from the cast, warning fans on Twitter: “This will make you cry.”
They then individually recounted what it had meant to work on the show, with Uzo Aduba (Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren) saying: “I’m so grateful for the fun times, the knowledge, the friendships, the love, the family that we have created together.”
She added: “Season 7, you will not be disappointed. It is a season you will not forget, and we’re going to give you everything and more that you have ever wanted.”
Laura Prepon also said that their ‘relationships will continue’ after the show, while Taylor Schilling thanked fans for all their support.
Based on the book of the same name by Piper Kerman, the critically-acclaimed show is one of Netflix’s longest-running and most popular series. It’s also been the winner of countless awards, as well as multiple Emmy nominations.
“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison,” showrunner Jenji Kohan said at the time of the show’s cancellation.
“I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black.”
