Nina Dobrev, the actress, who played Elena Gilbert on The CW drama for six seasons before departing in 2015, finally announced her return via Instagram on Thursday.
“I know it’s Thursday, but this is not a TBT,” Dobrev wrote along with a photo of a new TVD script.
Nina didn’t really reveal that how many episodes she will appear in, but by observing the script in her photo,, it is for episode 816 – the series finale.
Since it was announced that last year The Vampire Diaries would be ending with season 8, fans have been demanding for Dobrev to come back and wrap up Elena’s storyline in Mystic Falls. When we last saw her, Elena was cursed with a sleeping spell — with the condition that awaking her would result in the death of Bonnie (Kat Graham).
Meanwhile, the CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed that talks were underway to bring Dobrev back for the series’ final bow. However, he also said that series creator Julie Plec had an alternate plan in placing the case but unfortunately the deal didn’t work out.
“Hopefully she’ll be back,” Pedowitz said about Dobrev, “But should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”
Plec, who is writing the finale with co-series creator Kevin Williamson, has also said many times that she hoped to get Dobrev back to end the show.
Looks like fans wishes finally came true with the return of Nina Dobrev! Enjoy the show.
