The Vampire Diaries went through a lot of transformation in the past year. Along with the departure of Nina Dobrev and a successive change in story line, the series has been moved to a new night. With so many changes happening and the rumors of a possible cancellation, it is possible that Dobrev will return in the finale so that her character, Elena can reunite with Ian Somerhalder’s Damon.
Nina left the show at the end of Season 6, when Elena (Dobrev) was spelled into a Sleeping Beauty-like nap by Kai. Her sleep was linked to Bonnie’s life, which meant that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has been left with a good 60 plus years before he sees his girlfriend again.
Julie Plec, the executive producer for the show, said
“I now realize that show’s fate is intertwined with the desire of Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley to remain a part of the action. Apparently, i’m willing to continue the series as long as the two leads stay on board.”
“‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ proved to be particularly disastrous, given that Damon burned Elena’s body during yet another unfortunately timed Phoenix Stone hallucination,” Bustle said. “even if it was Elena’s body that was being burnt to a crisp, that doesn’t mean the characters won’t find some magical solution that’ll help bring Elena back to life.”
Could Elena still be alive? If not, is there a chance that she can be brought back? Let’s be honest. This is The Vampire Diaries anything is possible here.
We are hoping that with the end of the show naturally approaching, Nina Dobrev will resume her beloved role as Elena Gilbert, and that she and her long lost love, Damon, will finally reunite and will get the perfect ending.
