Nicolas Cage in talks to play Nicolas Cage in movie about Nicolas Cage

The man, the legend: Nicolas Cage. Between swapping faces with John Travolta for Face/Off to stealing the Declaration of Independence in Disney’s National Treasure, the 55-year-old actor has had one of the most amusing careers in Hollywood. After years of taking on smaller projects, Cage is finally starring in a studio movie again. And turns out, he’ll be playing himself.

No one can play Nicolas Cage better than Cage himself. So it makes sense the eclectic actor is in talks to play a version of himself in the upcoming movie Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Lionsgate is in final negotiations to pick up the movie written by Tom Gormican (That Awkward Moment) and Kevin Etten (Ghosted), with Gormican attached to direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nicolas Cage has spent the last several years knocking out one low-budget yarn after another, making disposable thrillers or interesting oddities, sometimes in the same year. Other than some occasional voicework, the last major studio release starring the actor was 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, based on the Marvel character.

But now Cage could be back (not that he ever went away) in a big way as he finds himself in the center of a hot deal for a project in which he would play one of the most iconic characters in Hollywood: Nicolas Cage himself.
