Netflix ‘House of Cards’ to resume production in 2018

Netflix has reached an agreement to resume production on “House of Cards” season 6, the show’s final season in early 2018.

According to reports, the final season of House of Cards will include eight episodes (previous seasons have been 13 episodes long), and will focus on Robin Wright’s character Claire Underwood. Spacey will not be involved, as Netflix announced last month that it would no longer be working with him. Production will resume in January.

However, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Sarandos promised that the sixth season of the program would offer fans “closure” on the story, though he wouldn’t disclose precisely how the show would continue on without Frank Underwood.

“We have made an arrangement to produce six seasons of House of Cards. It will be an eight-episode season. It will start production in early 2018 and it will not involve Kevin Spacey,” said the Netflix Chief Content Officer Sarandos.

House of Cards” was Netflix’s first hit series when it debuted in 2013. But the show is now regarded as past its prime. Creator and showrunner Beau Willimon left the series last year after four seasons.

Netflix had also worked with Spacey on a movie in which the actor stars as the late writer Gore Vidal. But the streaming service said last month after Spacey’s sex scandal broke that it will no longer release the feature.
