MTV just introduced “gender neutral awards” this year and became the first mainstream film and video award show to give first acting award in history that doesn’t separate nominees based on genders.
The actor Emma Watson who is also a feminist campaigner and UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador won the Best Actor in a Movie Award for “Beauty and the Beast,” which was the first gender-neutral acting prize at the MTV movie awards.
“Acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories” Watson said after receiving her award.”
Gender-neutral awards may seem like a good idea right now, but in the long run, they might actually affect the equality progress instead of promoting it.
