Moomal Rano appears to be Pakistan’s version of Romeo and Juliet

One of the six Pakistani films made under ‘Zeal for Unity’ project, Moomal Rano (earlier called Mohabbat Ki Aakhri Kahani) will finally see the light of the day in Pakistan. Starring Ahsan Khan and Saba Qamar, the 90-minute film is all set to be screened at the upcoming Pakistan International Film Festival (PIFF).

Moomal Rano was earlier curtained at multiple global film festivals, including the Jaipur International Film Festival 2018 and the Wollongong Film Festival 2017.

According to reports, the name was changed because “it has a higher recall value and since the story is based on the popular Sindhi folklore, it made more sense.”

The film is a love story based on the folk tale of Moomal Rano where Saba will be playing the role of Moomal. The tragic romance which appears in Shah Abdul Lateef Bhittai’s Shah Jo Risalo is a tale of a woman Moomal whose lover, Rano abandons her thinking that she has cheated on him. Moomal patiently waits for his return only to be reunited much later.

Moomal Rano features Ahsan and Saba in lead roles while other cast members include Salman Saeed and Zainab Jameel.

The film is rumoured to release in cinemas and local TV channels soon, following its screening at PIFF.
