There’s never a time when Pakistanis stayed back in proving themselves, whether it’s receiving an Oscar or creating a record of doing something exceptional.
It’s a moment of pride for Pakistanis as two of our films have been nominated in the International Awards.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Mohammad Ali Naqvi are among those filmmakers whose films have been nominated for the International Awards – A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and Among the Believers.
Sharmeen’s documentary ‘A girl in the river: The Price of forgiveness’ has earned three nominations in categories; Best Documentary, Outstanding Short Documentary and Outstanding Music and Sound.
On the other hand, Naqvi’s film ‘Among the Believers’ has been nominated in the category; Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary. The same documentary which has been banned in Pakistan, won two consecutive Awards at Doc Edge, in an International documentary film festival in New Zealand.

While talking to the media, she further said:
“At SOC Films we hope that our work will spark difficult conversations that eventually lead to a change in mindsets. We have a long way to go with honour killings, which continue to impact the lives of thousands of women across the world. Through our work, we will continue to push the envelope aspiring to leave a more humane world for the next generation. My team and I are honoured to have received three Emmy nominations and aim to bring the statues home.”
Documentary The Secret Life of Muslims produced by and featuring Iranian-American author Reza Aslan, has been nominated in category Outstanding Short Documentary and will be competing against Sharmeen’s A Girl in the River for the award.
Sharmeen Obaid previously won an Emmy for her documentary Children of Taliban and two Emmys for Saving Face. She has also bagged Oscars for Saving Face and A Girl in the River.
