Miss Iceland drops out of beauty pageant after comments on being ‘too fat’

Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, Miss Iceland 2015, has quit a beauty pageant after the judges told her to ‘lose weight’ and labeled her as ‘too fat’.

Miss Grand International beauty contest’s owner sent Jónsdóttir a message informing her about the diet chart she need to follow. As reported by Iceland Monitor, the message advised her “stop eating breakfast, eat just salad for lunch and drink water every evening until the contest.”

Miss Iceland was stunned by the demand which was directed to her by the pageant owner, Nawat Itsaragrisil, through an official spokesperson.

Jónsdóttir said: “If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the top 10.

“I no longer have any interest in doing my best in this competition after receiving that message. This is definitely the last contest I shall be taking part in.

Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir won Miss Iceland in September 2015. She was on the Icelandic national team as a pole vaulter when she was 15 years old and participated in gymnastics for 10 years.

The 2016 Miss Grand International beauty pageant will take place on Oct. 25 in Las Vegas. It is considered as one of the top beauty pageants in the world.
