As a thank you to health workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, this weekend Miley Cyrus and her boyfriend Cody Simpson delivered tacos to their local hospital in Los Angeles. “So grateful for these true legends of our time dedicating their lives to battling this pandemic,” Simpson wrote in an Instagram post which features the two singers carting in takeout bags. “Show some love to yours in your community!”
With nonsurgical masks covering their faces and latex gloves on their hands, Cyrus and Simpson took the appropriate safety measures. And if you look closely, you’ll notice that Cyrus’s outfit was also embedded with a pointed political message, thanks to her Lou Dallas “Savage Capitalism” pants. A CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist in 2019, the label’s designer Raffaella Hanley is known for her sustainable practices, with much of her clothing made from repurposed and upcycled clothing. She first conceived of the “Savage Capitalism” slogan tees and hoodies back in 2017. “Capitalism is enough to drive people to destroy anything, including the planet they live on, in pursuit of money and more profit,” Hanley told Vogue.
When it comes to environmental issues, Cyrus has been just as outspoken. In that sense, Hanley’s statement pieces are right in line with the pop star’s values, and given the current political climate, especially prescient, too.
