The Meteorological Office on Wednesday took back its notification regarding the heatwave in the metropolis due to the prevalence of sea breeze in Karachi, reported Geo News.
According to the MET Office, the metropolis was set to witness a heatwave from May 18 to 22, due to the suspension of the sea breeze.
The MET Office added the city’s temperature is dependent on the breeze in the city.
The city was set to witness soldering temperatures with the mercury rising to 40°C this week, with predictions of a moderate heatwave.
According to Chief Meteorological Officer Sardar Sarfraz, due to the suspension of sea breeze, a mild heatwave was likely to grip the city and its outskirts over the next two days.
“The latest meteorological data analysis indicates no significant change in surface wind flow over Karachi so far, so no heatwave condition was observed on Monday,” Sarfraz said, according to The News. “However, over the next two days, Karachiites may experience heatwave conditions with maximum temperature in the 40-42°C range.”
Sarfaraz had added the mercury touched 38°C in Karachi on Monday, though the MET Office had predicted a moderate heatwave in the city from May 17.
He had added that as no change of wind flow had occurred in the city, the temperature remained less than 40°C, but due to high humidity, which was 62%, it felt like the temperature was very high.
