Too often we come across people that give us unsolicited advice that we aren’t looking for specially when we are going through a mental health crisis. They don’t realise there’s never a “right” thing you can say to someone struggling.
However, how does one show support if someone with a mental health disorder needs help?
Here’s what they need to do!
- Speak up: If it still bothers you after 24 hours, make sure you share it with someone you trust.
- Prioritise yourself: Treat yourself like you would for someone you are responsible to take care of.
- Belief: A bad day doesn’t mean a bad life
- Critical judge: The brain does not tell you what the heart wants to hear. Do what is best in your interest.
- Gratitude: Our brain cannot be anxious and grateful at the same time. When anxiety kicks in, find something to be grateful for.
- Be unapologetic: Stop being sorry for having emotions and feeling a certain way. You are worth being understood and your feelings are valid.
