Marvel really wants Keanu Reeves to join the MCU!

With Marvel’s current phase set to end with Spider-Man: Far From Home, fans are already starting to think about who they’d love to appear in future MCU movies. Now that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have vacated their iconic roles, Marvel Studios executives are also thinking about who to cast as their next era-defining superhero. And there’s one name at the top of their list: Keanu Reeves. Woah!

During a recent Far From Home press junket in London, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, said that he’s had Keanu Reeves in mind for a while now. Asked by ComicBook.com whether they’ve ever reached out to the actor, Feige joked: “We talk to him for almost every film we make.” He went on to add: “I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

It sounds like Marvel are biding their time until the right role comes along for Reeves; a strategy which paid off with their current star Jake Gyllenhaal, who was also the subject of long-term speculation until he was finally cast as Mysterio in Far From Home.

Now certainly feels like the right moment to cast Reeves in a superhero movie: the John Wick action franchise has catapulted the actor back into the pop culture conversation and he is enjoying a renewed popularity. He’d also be a great fit for the MCU’s mix of genres and tones: he has proven he can land punches and punchlines, most recently in a wild cameo in Netflix’s romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe, and he will soon be once again spreading excellence throughout time and space in Bill & Ted 3.

From what Feige is saying, it might not be happening any time soon, but we live in hope. In the meantime, we can enjoy Keanu’s distinctive voice as Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4.
