Superheroes are created to save the world and to protect the weak so what if the superheroes we love are dropped into this real world to fight evil?
Madaya Mom is a true-life comic book based on Syria starving. The new comic book series comes from collaboration between Marvel and ABC News; detailing the real-life accounts of a mother living in the war-torn Syrian city of Madaya.
“Today our one meal was rice and bean soup. Our bodies are no longer used to eating.” That is the opening of “Madaya Mom,” a true-life comic book released by ABC News and Marvel Comics.
“There was something hyper-specific and very emotional about this,” said Dan Silver, the executive producer of ABC News Digital.
The mainstream media has given less coverage to Syrian cities like Madaya unless they have been beset by headline-grabbing tragedy.
This comic offers a new way to provide context to what daily life is like in the besieged region through the mother’s perspective.
I hope the comic format would help the story reach an audience that is not necessarily following news of the conflict, which is in its fifth year. If you don’t know about it, I am afraid you have drifted apart from the real human nature. You’ve fallen into the trap of today’s society and have come to the point where you do good to someone only when you want something back or have other stimulus to do so, and that is just so sad.
A small gesture can make a lot difference, so go out today, help people and do good. The world needs people like you.
