Shabana Azmi has a strong believe that in Islam, marriage is not made in heaven and is essentially a contract.
Last week, she welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on triple talaq (divorce) providing that “the judgment is a victory for brave Muslim women in the country.”
On Tuesday, the Neerja actor shared an article on Madrassas in Uttar Pradesh to teach the ‘correct ways of divorce’ and tweeted:
Marriage is not made in heaven in Islam it’s a contract. We need a model nikahnama in which clauses of the contract are drawn up fairly. https://t.co/4x1ZfXywcG

However, many twitter users did not agree with her this statement:
No wonder you went and took someone else’s husband! Contract it seems! What kind of pre-medieval barbaric tribal culture does Islam promote!
