Today marks the 23rd death anniversary of renowned Pakistani poetess Parveen Shakir whose soulful and poignant poetry has left an imprint on thousands of people residing in the sub-continent.
Her poetry pulled the heart strings of many, who were devastated when she left the world in a tragic car accident on December 26 1994.
With her soul-stirring poetry, Urdu poetess Parveen Shakir managed to win the hearts of many, recently Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt just paid the most heartfelt tribute to the legendary writer in the most beautiful way possible.
Taking to Twitter, the Murder director tweeted some excerpts from Shakir’s poetry and wrote:
KyuN mujh pe hua hai mehrbaaN tu
Ek zarra-e-khaak aur kahaaN tu
MaiN dhoop ki aadi ho chali thi
KyuN mujh pe bana hai sayebaaN tu
MaiN teri zameen-e-nisf-e-shab huN
TaaroN bhara mera aasmaaN tu

Shakir was a multifaceted woman. A civil servant, poet and writer, she also received a Pride of Performance award for her contribution to the South Asian literature. She managed to win the hearts of many with her soul-stirring poetry.
Till this day, her verses are remembered and recited by established and aspiring poets.
