LOVE FROM ACROSS THE BORDER

In 1947, Sardar Gopal Singh, 94, of India, and Muhammad Bashir, 91, of Narowal, were separated and reunited in Kartarpur. The Kartarpur Corridor brought two nonagenarians together after India was divided into two countries.

Near 1947, the two friends, India’s Sardar Gopal Singh (94) and Muhammad Bashir (91), a resident of a hamlet in Narowal, were separated. When they met one other after such a long period, they hugged each other with teary eyes.

Gopal Singh crossed the border to perform religious ceremonies at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, according to Kartarpur sources, while Bashir paid a visit to the gurdwara as a tourist.

The meeting of two nonagenarians who were separated by the border brought joy to the Indian Sikh pilgrims and Pakistani visitors to the gurdwara who were there at the moment.

The two friends were congratulated by pilgrims from Pakistan, India, and other countries. Both of the old buddies reminisced about their adolescence and upbringing.

Both of them were in their early twenties when Pakistan was created, according to Gopal Singh. Bashir stated that the two buddies used to visit Baba Guru Nanak’s Gurdwara even before the Partition. They shared a lunch table, ate meals, and drank tea together.

Gopal Singh expressed his delight at the Kartarpur Corridor initiative and praised the Pakistani authorities for it. At 5pm, Gopal Singh returned to India.
