Do you know “Love” is as addictive as a “Drug”?

We have spent our entire lives hearing that being in love is addictive and it is synonymous to drug. However, this might actually turn out to be true. As it has officially been declared that the feelings of being in love and thinking continuously about that one person might be an addiction.

After about reviewing 64 studies of love and addiction based on the period of 60 years, researchers have found two different evidence of love addiction theories.

First Theory – Narrow View:

As per the researchers, people who go straight from one relationship to another and feel lonely when they are single have a “narrow” type of love addiction.

Much similar to the other type of addiction, this can be caused by abnormal processes in the brain that boost reward signals and isn’t present in people without an addiction.

Second Theory – “Broad” Love Addiction:

According to this theory, seeking out love is similar to seeking out a need to satisfy the appetite. It states:

“This approach would claim that to love someone is literally to be addicted to them, though perhaps only weakly.”

What’s more is that these researchers were clever enough to provide evidence. As per the citations, the brain regions and neurochemicals involved with the romantic bonding and addiction are similar. Thus, there are many similarities between addiction and everyday romantic attachment.

Their paper concludes:

“In this article, we have argued that there is now abundant behavioral, neurochemical and neuroimaging evidence to support the claim that love is (or at least that it can be) an addiction, in much the same way that chronic drug-seeking behavior can be termed an addiction.

“People whose lives are negatively impacted by love ought to be offered support and treatment opportunities analogous to those that we extend to substance abusers.”

Now probably that you have a scientific evidence to back up your support of loving someone and being addicted to them, you might have a justification for why you falls heads over heel on someone every other day.
