Keanu Reeves set to return for The Matrix 4

The Matrix is getting a fourth installment with some very familiar faces.

A new chapter in the franchise is in the works at Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss are reportedly set to reprise their respective roles as Neo and Trinity, while Lana Wachowski, one of the two directors of the original trilogy, will write and direct the sequel.

Warner Bros Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana.”

The first Matrix film, also starring Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, was released 20 years ago, in 1999.

The story of Neo, a computer programmer who discovers that humans have been turned into an energy source and trapped in a virtual reality, has earned a strong fan following and remains a seminal work of cyberpunk science fiction.

It was followed by two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003).

Sisters Lana and Lilly Wachowski directed all three instalments.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Lana said further
“I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
