Just last year John Cena had expressed his desire to star in a Fast and Furious film alongside his fellow WWE wrestler Dwayne Johnson. He had stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “That stuff is beyond my control, but I would absolutely love that opportunity. That, for me, would be a dream. I’m never really like, ‘Oh, I’d like to work with this person,’ but I just think between our chemistry in the live performance setting, there’s something certainly there with The Rock. So that would be my one name on the wish list.”
Dwayne Johnson is already starring in Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. Deadline reported that Universal has officially confirmed the presence of John Cena in the franchise for the new film slated for a May 2020 release.
Sharing the news on Twitter, John Cena wrote, “For nearly 20 years, the Fast Franchise has entertained fans and created some of the biggest cinematic moments in history. It’s an incredible honor to join this franchise and this family.”

The ninth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise is expected to go on floors in the coming weeks and will also see the return of Jordana Brewster to the franchise. Jordana is the original member of the Fast & Furious family, who plays lead character Dom Toretto’s sister Mia Toretto.
Another good news for the fans is that Michelle Rodriguez is returning to the film after threatening to exit if no female writer was added to the roster. In London last month at Bloomberg Summit, the actress had revealed, People reports, “Yeah, I’m gonna do 9. Donna [Langley, Chairman of Universal Pictures] came on board, the woman came on board at the studio, and agreed to have that female voice on board so the guys aren’t basically interpreting that female voice on paper. ‘Cause it’s annoying, I rewrite all my stuff! I’m tired of being a writer and an actress, you know? It’s kind of cool that I had that freedom, but it’s frivolous.”
