Joaquin Phoenix after vowing audience with his global hit Joker has been named by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as its 2019 Person of the Year.
As being reported, Phoenix has been a vegan since he was 3 and he has been a longtime supporter of the animal rights organisation.
The Hollywood start recently appeared on PETA’s “We Are All Animals” billboards, promoting the legislation to ban traveling wild-animal circuses
Phoenix partnership with PETA also includes campaigns against exotic skins fishing, dog leather, and the turkey industry.
Phoenix also executive produced a documentary named ‘The Animal People’, about animal rights activists coming up against powerful industry interests.
PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in a statement said, “Joaquin Phoenix never misses an opportunity to turn the spotlight away from himself and onto animals’ plight and to set a great example of walking the vegan walk”.
After being named PETA’s person of the year, Phoenix has joined in earlier PETA Person of the Year winners mostly celebrities who have worked with PETA to create awareness of animal cruelty in fashion, like Pope Francis, Oprah Winfrey, Anjelica Huston, Olivia Munn, Eva Mendes, and Alicia Silverstone.
